Boris Johnson told reporters at the Nato summit in Madrid on Wednesday that it was an “incredible” day in the alliance’s history as Finland and Sweden were officially invited to join.
The Prime Minister also spoke about huge increases in the UK’s defence budget, claiming it to now be the “biggest increase since the end of the Cold War – £24bn more”.
“In 2021 we were the third-biggest defence spender in the world. Actually, today we’re at 2.3pc of GDP so we’re above the 2pc commitment already,” he said.
