A Russian journalist has auctioned off his Nobel Peace Prize for a record £84 million ($103.5 million) to raise money for children in Ukraine.

Dmitry Muratov, who won the prize in 2021, sold the award to an unknown bidder at the sale in New York.

All proceeds will be given to Unicef's humanitarian response for Ukraine's displaced children, said Heritage Auctions.

Muratov, who is editor-in-chief of Russia’s Novaya Gazeta newspaper, has been fiercely critical of Vladimir Putin since he became Russia’s president in 1999.
