President Zelensky has welcomed the European Union formally granting Ukraine candidate status for the EU, calling it a 'victory.'
The 27 heads of state and government gave their approval to Ukraine being considered for EU membership in what was described as a historic show of support for Kyiv.
"We have been waiting for 120 days (of the war) and 30 years (of its independence)," said Zelensky, speaking in a video address on Thursday.
