Private security guards are being hired by the government to patrol the public.
Community advocates say they aren’t helping and they’re escalating violence on the streets.
The Northern Territory is one of the only places in Australia where the government pays private companies to carry out work the police would usually be responsible for.
The guards are believed to have no extra powers and very little training – and as Four Corners discovers, they’ve got a disturbing history, with evidence they’ve been involved in alleged assaults.
